REPO Devs Say “Sorry For The Wait!” Blame Viral Success for Update Delay, Tease Harder “Moon Phases”

While many eyes are on upcoming blockbusters like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, let’s not overlook REPO, 2025’s surprise indie horror sensation that continues to grip players. After exploding onto Steam in February and racking up nearly 150,000 overwhelmingly positive reviews (96% approval!), the small development team at Semiwork has been, in their own words, in a state of “we slept once and have been awake ever since.” Now, as fans eagerly await the game’s first major update, currently in a lengthy beta, Semiwork has offered a candid apology and an explanation.

In a video charmingly titled “we’re sorry – again,” Semiwork developer Pontus Sundstrom addressed the community directly. “We are aware that you guys are longing for the first update – we are as well,” he stated, amidst playful heckling from the game’s iconic little REPO robots. “We’re still on the home stretch, and there’s still stuff to be done. But we want to apologize for all the waiting.”

Beyond the apology, the video was a heartfelt thank you to the player base. “As you all know, REPO took us by surprise,” Sundstrom confessed, adding that the game’s viral success “literally made Semiwork as a studio survive.” He painted a vivid picture of their sudden change in fortunes: “One day we were crossing our fingers for rent money and the next we had millions of players storming our servers to play our game.”

This “explosive success,” however, proved to be a double-edged sword. Sundstrom explained that the immediate aftermath required a massive amount of bug squashing, essential paperwork, and robust hacker-proofing for the game. These critical but time-consuming tasks, he admitted, “pulled our tiny team away from all the fun stuff, which is to create actual content for the game.” This is a significant reason why the highly anticipated first update has taken longer than initially expected.

Looking ahead, Sundstrom offered reassurance, promising that future updates won’t face such extended development cycles. The team is gearing up to deliver a “mountain of new surprises.” Addressing player feedback directly, he mentioned that the Museum area is “not finished” and is being worked on. Furthermore, for players who’ve mastered REPO’s current scares, a new challenge is coming: the game’s difficulty is set to increase with a feature called “Moon Phases,” because, as Sundstrom put it, “the game needs to keep up with you.”

So, while the wait for REPO’s first big content drop continues, the transparency and dedication from the small team at Semiwork are clear. They’re navigating the complexities of unexpected mega-stardom while striving to enhance the viral horror experience that saved their studio and captivated hundreds of thousands.
