Make It So, Marvel! Star Trek Picard’s Showrunner & DS9 Legend Join Vision Quest Writing Staff

Marvel’s Vision Quest Beams Up Star Trek’s Finest: Picard & DS9 Veterans to Steer WandaVision Spinoff

Get ready for an exciting new chapter in the MCU, as Marvel’s highly anticipated Vision Quest series is being crafted by a veritable dream team of writers, many of whom are celebrated veterans of the Star Trek universe! This promising development suggests the WandaVision spin-off is in very capable hands.

The series, which has been quietly developing for over a year, will see Terry Matalas take the helm as showrunner. Matalas is renowned for his work on Star Trek: Picard, particularly its critically acclaimed third season where he successfully reunited the beloved Star Trek: The Next Generation cast. Now, he’s bringing his talents, and some familiar colleagues, to guide Paul Bettany’s return as Vision.

Joining Matalas on this new Marvel adventure, as revealed by the Writer’s Guild of America website, are fellow Picard scribes Chris Monfette, Cindy Appel, and Matt Okumura. It’s worth noting these talents were instrumental in Picard’s well-received later seasons, working alongside Matalas to deliver a compelling narrative.

Perhaps most thrilling for genre fans is the confirmation that Michael Taylor, a legendary writer with credits on Battlestar GalacticaStar Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager, is also part of the Vision Quest writing room. Taylor penned over a dozen Voyager episodes and is responsible for some of Deep Space Nine’s most iconic and best-loved episodes, including the seminal “In the Pale Moonlight” and the poignant “The Visitor.” His involvement adds a significant layer of creative firepower to the project.

Filming for Vision Quest reportedly commenced earlier this spring, with Pinewood Studios in London serving as a primary base, though location shoots in Scotland have also been observed.

While Marvel is keeping specific plot details under wraps, fans eagerly anticipate the series will explore the fate of Paul Bettany’s “White Vision,” last seen departing at the conclusion of WandaVision. Intriguingly, there are also whispers that the series might feature the return of James Spader’s Ultron (memorably destroyed in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron) and even the character Raza, who played a pivotal role in Tony Stark’s origin in the original Iron Man.

Vision Quest is slated for a Disney+ release sometime in 2026. For those keeping score, this means it’s likely to arrive before the delayed Avengers: Doomsday but after the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With such an esteemed and experienced writing team, hopes are certainly high for Vision’s next journey.
