Lone Wolves Rejoice! Elden Ring Nightreign Answers Solo Player Prayers with Lifeline Patch

Good news for Tarnished venturing alone! FromSoftware has heard the pleas of solo adventurers in Elden Ring Nightreign and is rolling out a significant patch next week (Patch 1.02) aimed squarely at improving their experience in the newly released multiplayer spin-off.

Following a day-one patch that brought initial balance adjustments, this upcoming update, announced via the official ELDEN RING Twitter account (@ELDENRING) on May 30, 2025, is set to introduce two crucial enhancements specifically for solo expeditions:

  • A Second Chance: Players going it alone will now benefit from an “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” effect. This means solo adventurers will get one automatic revive per Nightlord boss battle, offering a vital lifeline in those tough encounters.

  • More Rewarding Hunts: The amount of runes acquired during solo play will be increased, making progression and character strengthening a more satisfying endeavor for lone wolves.

The official announcement stated: “The following improvements for solo expeditions will be added to the game: – The effect ‘Automatic Revival Upon Defeat’, which allows revival once per night boss battle, will be added to solo expeditions. – The amount of runes gained will be increased. Thank you for your support.”

This swift response from FromSoftware comes after Nightreign launched earlier this week. While it saw strong concurrent player numbers on Steam, its reception was “Mixed,” with many players highlighting the challenges of solo play in a game seemingly designed primarily for multiplayer. Criticisms also pointed to the lack of a duo option and in-game communication features.

Despite the game being a multiplayer spin-off from a studio renowned for its single-player masterpieces, it seems FromSoftware is actively working to address the current backlash and make solo play a more feasible and enjoyable option. This is welcome news for many who, while appreciating the game’s core, found the solo experience particularly punishing.

This dedication to refining the solo experience is a positive sign, especially as the studio had previously mentioned it was “considering a two-player option post-launch,” acknowledging it was “something that was overlooked during development.”

While initial impressions might have suggested Nightreign wasn’t ideal for solo adventurers, this upcoming patch signals FromSoftware’s commitment to listening to its community and evolving the game. It’s a promising step towards making Elden Ring Nightreign, described in our review as “an exhilarating rush and a celebration of the studio’s prior achievements,” more accessible and rewarding for all types of players, including those who prefer to face the darkness alone.
