Hangtown Inferno: Jett Lawrence Masters the Heat for Decisive Victory, Extends Championship Lead

hangtown motocross results: The legendary Hangtown Motocross Classic lived up to its reputation for toughness, but the 2025 edition added a brutal twist: triple-digit temperatures that tested the mettle of every rider. Emerging from the scorching conditions victorious was none other than Jett Lawrence, whose 3-1 moto scores secured him the 450SX overall win and his second consecutive triumph in the 2025 Pro Motocross Championship Series.
Under a blistering California sun, Jett Lawrence (Honda) showcased both tactical brilliance and raw speed to extend his championship lead to a commanding 16 points over Aaron Plessinger (KTM) after just two rounds. The Hangtown faithful witnessed a day of intense racing where managing the extreme heat was as crucial as managing the track.
Moto 1: Tomac Triumphs as Heat Takes its Toll
The opening moto saw Aaron Plessinger rocket to the front, closely followed by Justin Cooper (Yamaha), Eli Tomac (Yamaha), and Jett Lawrence. Cooper quickly found himself shuffled back, allowing Tomac to lock onto Plessinger’s rear wheel. In a gritty display, Tomac relentlessly pursued Plessinger, making a decisive pass on the penultimate lap. A visibly drained Plessinger, battling the oppressive heat, had no answer, finishing over 11 seconds adrift. Jett Lawrence rode a smart race, settling into P3 from the third lap onwards, conserving energy while Hunter Lawrence (Honda) and Justin Cooper maintained their positions behind him.
Moto 2: The Jett Show Ignites Hangtown, Heat Shortens Race
With the extreme heat pushing riders to their limits, AMA officials wisely shortened the second moto to 25 minutes plus two laps. This moto, however, was unequivocally “The Jett Show.” Lawrence seized the holeshot and never looked back, leading every lap in a dominant display. Justin Cooper put in a solid ride for a distant P2, holding the position for the entirety of the race.
The battle for the remaining top spots intensified around Lap 6. Aaron Plessinger made a crucial pass on Hunter Lawrence for P3, while international star Jorge Prado (Kawasaki) found his rhythm, overtaking Jason Anderson (Kawasaki) and Cooper Webb (Yamaha) to secure P5.
Meanwhile, Eli Tomac’s hopes for a strong second moto were dashed early. A poor start saw him mired in the pack, completing the first lap in P18. Though he mounted an epic charge through the field, a fall on Lap 5 while running in P8 significantly hampered his progress. Tomac dropped back to P12 before fighting his way to a P9 finish, salvaging valuable points but clearly frustrated.
Overall Podium and Championship Implications
Jett Lawrence’s consistent 3-1 was enough to clinch the overall victory with 45 points. Aaron Plessinger’s resilience earned him second overall (2-3 for 42 points), keeping him in the championship hunt. Justin Cooper rounded out the podium with a strong 4-2 performance for 40 points, highlighting his consistency.
Eli Tomac’s challenging second moto (1-9 for 38 points) saw him slip to P3 in the standings, just one point behind Plessinger. Justin Cooper sits a close fourth, only three points further back from Tomac, setting the stage for a tight battle as the series progresses.
