Get Ready to Groove Again! Peacemaker Season 2 Confirms New Dancing Intro with More Characters, Fresh Moves & Eagly’s Debut!

Prepare to resist the “skip intro” button once more! HBO Max and DC’s hit series Peacemaker, starring the incomparable John Cena, is officially bringing back its iconic dancing opening sequence for its highly anticipated second season. But this isn’t just a rehash – fans can expect more characters, brand-new choreography, and a fresh theme song. And for the Eagly enthusiasts out there, get ready to see Peacemaker’s loyal avian companion shake his tail feathers!
If you somehow missed it, the first season’s intro – a deadpan, perfectly choreographed dance number set to Wig Wam’s “Do You Wanna Taste It?” – became a viral sensation, a delightful piece of television that viewers (myself included) rarely, if ever, skipped. It was just that good.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, DCEU architect and Peacemaker showrunner James Gunn confirmed that the new season, set to premiere in August, will indeed feature another musical introduction. The decision to create something entirely new was partly a matter of necessity. “We killed everyone in the season,” Gunn candidly told EW. “So we kind of had to [film a new intro]. Everyone died!”
Beyond the character turnover, the new season also boasts an expanded cast. “Also, we have a lot of new cast members — Tim Meadows is Langston Fleury, Sol Rodriguez is Sasha Bordeaux, and Michael Rooker’s in the cast, Judomaster is a bigger character this time — so I knew that I needed to do a new dance,” Gunn explained.
While parting ways with Wig Wam’s infectiously catchy track was a tough call, Gunn revealed that a new song will accompany the updated dance. “I really went back and forth an awful lot,” he admitted. “And at the end of the day, I decided that we use a new song that’s a little bit more about what the season’s about.”
And now for the news every Eagly fan has been waiting for: Peacemaker’s feathered friend is getting in on the action! Gunn confirmed to EW that in this new intro, we’ll see Peacemaker’s eagle pet attempt to “dance for the first time.” Don’t expect perfect pirouettes, though. “He is not the best at it, but he tries to really join in the dance sequence at the end. He’s got a little pose this time,” Gunn teased.
Gunn remains pragmatic about whether the new dance sequence can truly “one-up” the beloved original, acknowledging its unexpected viral success. “That was a complete surprise, and you just can’t replicate that,” he said. His focus, instead, is on creating something genuinely good that resonates with audiences, even if it doesn’t hit “4 billion views on TikTok.” He did, however, promise that “the surprises within the show itself, I think, replicate that many times over, because there are so many more twists and turns in this season with what happens and what you find out about this universe.”
After a nearly three-year wait, Peacemaker season 2 finally returns on August 21st, exclusively on HBO Max (yes, it’s officially HBO Max again!). Get your dancing shoes ready!
