Fans Won Over by Wheel of Time Season 3 as TV Series Concludes; IP Lives On with Ambitious New Game
Wheel of Time Concludes Prime Video Run on a High: Acclaimed Season 3 Sets Stage for Franchise's Gaming Future

Fans of The Wheel of Time had reason to celebrate with a stellar Season 3 that finally seemed to capture the hearts of many book enthusiasts and critics alike. However, despite this upswing in reception and what was felt to be a promising trajectory, Prime Video has announced that the epic fantasy series will conclude its run and not be renewed for a fourth season.
According to a report from Deadline, the decision came after “lengthy deliberations.” While executives reportedly appreciated the show, adapting Robert Jordan’s sprawling world is a significant financial undertaking. Ultimately, the performance of Season 3, while improved, was not deemed strong enough to justify the high costs for another season when compared against other Prime Video commitments. This was a challenging decision for co-producers Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios, the latter of which also produces the immensely expensive The Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power.
As Deadline noted, sources indicated that “the Season 3 overall performance was not strong enough compared to the show’s cost for Prime Video to commit to another season and the streamer could not make it work after examining different scenarios and following discussions with lead studio Sony TV.”
This news will undoubtedly be disappointing for the dedicated fanbase, particularly as Season 3, starring Rosamund Pike, was widely praised for righting the ship after a rockier start and with so much of Jordan’s rich narrative still to explore. IGN’s own review of The Wheel of Time Season 3 awarded it an impressive 8/10, stating: “The Wheel of Time finally achieves its full potential in season 3, which is filled with rich characters finding their place in Robert Jordan’s complex fantasy world.”
While the television adaptation’s journey may be ending, the Pattern is far from finished weaving new tales for The Wheel of Time. Excitingly, a ‘AAA Open-World RPG’ is currently in development, promising a new and immersive way for fans to experience this beloved universe. IGN recently delved deeper into this upcoming project with iwot Studios, the rights holders for The Wheel of Time, uncovering details that are sure to ignite anticipation.
So, while one chapter closes for The Wheel of Time on screen, the series concludes its Prime Video run having delivered its strongest season yet, and the future of the franchise looks bright in the gaming world, offering new adventures for fans to look forward to.
