Netflix Fans Devastated as ‘Heartland,’ a Beloved 18-Season Drama, Is Set to Leave the Platform

Netflix subscribers are bracing for a major loss at the end of this month as the platform prepares to remove all 16 seasons of the long-running and much-loved family drama, Heartland. Fans have labeled the series “a true delight to watch” and are gutted by its impending departure, especially since two more seasons have yet to even land in the US.
The wholesome Canadian series, which has been a staple for binge-watchers seeking heartfelt entertainment, will be pulled on Thursday, July 31, leaving many viewers scrambling to finish their watch and wondering where they can follow the Fleming family’s journey next.
What is Heartland?
For the uninitiated, Heartland is one of the longest-running scripted dramas in Canadian television history, spanning 18 seasons and over 270 episodes since its debut in 2007. Set on a sprawling ranch in the foothills of the Alberta Rocky Mountains, the series follows the multi-generational Fleming family.
At its core is Amy Fleming (Amber Marshall), a young woman who discovers she shares her late mother’s gift for healing abused and injured horses. Alongside her sister Lou (Michelle Morgan), grandfather Jack (Shaun Johnston), and a cast of beloved characters, Amy navigates the highs and lows of life, love, and the relentless challenges of keeping their family ranch afloat. The show has earned a strong 8.4/10 rating on IMDb, with fans calling it “good old-fashioned entertainment” and “totally addictive.”
Why Is Heartland Leaving Netflix?
The removal has left many fans frustrated and confused, with many taking to social media to plead with Netflix to keep the show. “Huge mistake to remove Heartland from the US line up,” one user wrote. “Best show on your network and billions of viewers.”
Like most shows that disappear from the streaming giant, the reason comes down to licensing. It is highly likely that Netflix’s licensing agreement for Heartland has expired and was not renewed. This follows a pattern seen in 2022 when the first six seasons were dropped from many international markets.
Where Can You Watch Heartland Now?
Fortunately for fans, the end of Heartland on Netflix is not the end of the series itself. The show has found a new, more comprehensive streaming home in the US.
All episodes of Heartland—including the newer seasons 17 and 18 that were never available on Netflix—can now be streamed on UP Faith & Family, the dedicated streaming service from the UPtv channel.
The show is still going strong, with production for a 19th season confirmed to have started in May. This means fans can not only catch up on what they’ve missed but also look forward to brand-new stories from the ranch.
So while it’s time to say goodbye to Heartland on Netflix, the saga of the Fleming family is far from over.
