KPop Demon Hunters” Sequel? Creators Say ‘Always’ After Animated Film Dominates Netflix

Netflix’s latest animated feature, KPop Demon Hunters, has become a global phenomenon since its debut last month, and fans are already clamoring for more. The musical fantasy has not only captivated audiences and critics but has also broken records, leaving the door wide open for a potential new franchise for the streamer.
The film has been a runaway success, topping Netflix’s global charts in over 40 countries. Its critical reception has been just as impressive, earning a stellar 94% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, who praised it as “jaunty family entertainment with a terrific soundtrack to boot.” The audience score is equally strong at 89%.
That soundtrack was a smash hit in its own right, soaring to #1 on the Billboard 200 chart—a rare feat for a Netflix soundtrack. With this level of success, the big question on everyone’s mind is: will there be a sequel?
According to the film’s creators, the answer is a resounding yes.
Creators are “Always” Thinking About a Sequel
In a recent interview with Screenrant, KPop Demon Hunters creator and co-director Maggie Kang confirmed that the team is more than ready to continue the story. When asked if they were considering a sequel, her response was simple and direct: “Always.”
Kang elaborated on the potential for future stories, hinting that the world of KPop Demon Hunters is far from fully explored.
“There are always side stories, and there are things we’ve thought of while making this one,” Kang explained. “There are a lot of questions that are answered, but not fully. I think there are a lot of pockets that we can explore.”
What Could a “KPop Demon Hunters” Sequel Be About?
The first film left several tantalizing plot threads dangling, giving a potential sequel plenty of material to work with. Fans have pointed to several key areas that could be explored:
-
Rumi’s Journey: The film’s protagonist, Rumi, still has a mysterious backstory. A sequel could delve deeper into her parentage and the truth behind her demonic legacy.
-
The Fate of Jinu: Jinu’s fate at the end of the film was left deliberately ambiguous, leading many to speculate that the character could make a dramatic return.
-
Unresolved Character Arcs: Several other characters had journeys that were left open-ended, offering rich ground for further development.
While Netflix has yet to make an official announcement, the combination of overwhelming commercial success, critical acclaim, and passionate creators makes a follow-up seem almost inevitable. Whether the next chapter comes as a full-fledged movie or a new series, it’s clear that the world of KPop Demon Hunters has only just begun to sing its song.
