Chuck E. Cheese for Grown-Ups? New ‘Chuck’s Arcade’ Aims at Adults with Retro Games, Beer, and Mortal Kombat

The place where “a kid can be a kid” is now making a play for the adults who grew up there. Famed animatronic pizza chain Chuck E. Cheese is tapping into a powerful new market: nostalgia. The company has launched “Chuck’s Arcade,” an adult-focused spin-off designed as a “modern-day love letter” to its aging fanbase.
Forget the ball pit and screaming toddlers. This grown-up version of the arcade ditches the kiddie atmosphere for a retro-cool vibe, complete with games and amenities catered specifically to a legal-age crowd.
A Modern-Day Love Letter to Nostalgia
Chuck’s Arcade offers a curated mix of classic and modern games that would never make the cut at a traditional Chuck E. Cheese. While you can find beloved retro titles like Galaga, you’ll also see more intense, violent games that were intentionally left out of the main chain’s family-friendly environment, such as Mortal Kombat and Halo.
The experience is a full-fledged throwback. Big-ticket winners can cash in their points at a prize counter stocked with “old-school merch” alongside mountains of candy. Select locations will also serve food and, most importantly, alcohol, finally letting millennial and Gen X fans pair their arcade high scores with a cold beer.
The Animatronics Are Back
In a move sure to delight longtime fans, each of the new locations is “overseen by an animatronic character” from the company’s iconic lineup. This includes not only Chuck E. Cheese himself but also lesser-known members of Munch’s Make Believe Band—the animatronic group that was discontinued at nearly all locations in 2023. This offers a rare chance for fans to see the classic characters in action once again.
So far, 10 Chuck’s Arcade locations have opened in malls across the country, with spots in New York, Connecticut, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas, New Hampshire, and Missouri. The New York location is in Victor, just southeast of Rochester.
A “Natural Evolution” After Hard Times
The move is part of a broader strategy for the company, which has been on a rollercoaster ride in recent years. After filing for bankruptcy during the COVID-19 pandemic, the parent company invested a staggering $350 million into remodeling its 500 locations worldwide and introducing new pricing to appeal to families on a budget.
David McKillips, CEO of Chuck E. Cheese, described the new adult-focused venture as a “natural evolution” for the brand.
“Chuck E. Cheese has spent decades mastering the arcade experience — it’s in our DNA,” McKillips stated, signaling confidence in the company’s ability to cater to a new generation of paying customers—the very same ones who celebrated their birthdays there decades ago. After a successful turnaround that saw the company exploring a potential $1 billion sale in 2023, Chuck’s Arcade represents a bold new chapter in the brand’s storied history.
